Students who do not have them on Tuesday, will need to write their answers during the test period.
LEARNING GOALS
I will have a deeper understanding of these social science theories about the family: Structural Functionalism, Symbolic Interactionism, Systems, Social Exchange, Life Cycle, Conflict, Feminism. Post Modernism and Queer. I will be able to apply the theory in terms of understanding how a specific family (one from Modern Family) works or does not work - or could be better understood.

Tues) Watch half of the Modern Family episode Pumkin Chunkin - Season 3 episode 9. Look at the three families that are featured on the show. Each represents a different type of family with different types of social interactions.
Wed) Which theory is the most difficult to understand? Why?
Fri) Vote by stickers on the theories and areas of the course that you would like to review on Monday for the test on Tuesday. What is it about a certain theory that you aren't sure of?
ACTION
Tues, Wed and Fri we will work through the power point on the theories covering approximately 3 a day. There is a corresponding student work package. At intervals, we will break and work in small groups or pairs on applying the theory to one of the families from Modern Family. We will take these up together and make rough notes on the Working with the Theories package.
CONSOLIDATION
Tues) What would Structural Functionalists have to say about each of these families? In which way are they all on target? In which ways are they not?
Wed) Which is the hardest theory to apply and why?
Fri) Based on all of the theories, which ones still remain a little fuzzy? Which are you feeling good about?
